For the past 27 years, I have always looked forward to sending cards, and gifts, reviewing the past year’s successes, and planning for the upcoming with my clients. The best part was that as the years went by and I became known for my relationship-building skills – it was more like chatting with friends and family than clients. I will miss that this year.
Something that has stayed the same is the journey back to NYC for Thanksgiving. Since part of my gap time is to take on things that I have not traditionally done – an Audible book was on the agenda for the drive. The book You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and start living an Awesome Life by #JenSincero. I bought the (physical) book for my 2021 trip to Antigua – but never read it because I gave it to my girlfriend. She needed to know she was a badass – hell, I already knew I was.
Fast forward to today in the car. I took the opportunity to listen as Spencer slept. Some co-driver he is. Great book. I love Jen – she is such a great writer and storyteller.
I listened to the entire book and still had a ways to go. So, I listened again. It was easier than waking up Spencer and asking him to put on another book. And, no stopping – it’s all about making good time.
While you are driving and listening, you apparently miss stuff. Trying to navigate around the 18-wheeler in the left lane even though they are not supposed to be there – can be a distraction.
As I came over the Throgs Neck Bridge – my fav and the only one, I would drive over after 911. It was less of a target – the things we can make ourselves believe. Jen was saying…”get booted from the tribe…” wait, what did she say??
Rewind. If you have been booted from your Tribe you can boohoo ( I am paraphrasing) or “Get booted from the tribe and start or find a new tribe that is more your style” (not paraphrasing)
I was… driving over my favorite bridge on the sunniest day, headed to see my Tribe (that has not booted me), and I got so excited at the possibility of finding my new work tribe. A huge smile came over my face. What a thrilling adventure, specifically the part about “more my style.”
Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy all your tribes!
